Form Exploration: Book Table

Form Exploration: Geoform Book Table

A project working with composition in 3D space and understanding different tools in the wood shop. With this project we worked with the table saw, chop saw, band saw, router, joiner, and planer.

Final Geoform

The final product is made from poplar and sixteen 3/4 in. self-sinking wood screws. The final product is designed for a specific book of our choosing. I decided to choose Grafis Design– a book describing the history of Swiss graphic design.

Book table can be used in different orientations for different purposes: storage and display. This was intended for the different uses of the display book.

Process

Quarter-scale Explorations

Explored a variety of different wood pieces and orientations before working at larger scale. Quarter-scale models are all made with 1/8 inch foam core
